Non-use of force by Georgia broached at Geneva discussions (18.06.12)

Issues of non-use of force by Georgia were central to the latest round of negotiations of the Geneva discussions on security and stability in the Caucasus.

According to the head of South Ossetia’s delegation Boris Chochiev, Moscow presented a draft joint statement on non-use of force, formalizing Georgia’s refusal to resort to military action against South Ossetia, however, it was yet again rejected by the Georgian side.

Chochiev also noted that the discussions considered the validity of using the terms "occupation" and "occupied territory" in relation to South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which the State Department and Congress, as well as some international organizations, are attempting to introduce at Georgia’s suggestion.
